Mobile Deposit at Scotiaconnect

Deposit checks with your phone — snap a photo of the front and back through the Scotiaconnect app and funds post by the next business day. No branch visit required.

Deposit Features

Scotiaconnect mobile deposit processes personal, business, government, and payroll checks — photograph your check, endorse it properly, and funds are available fast.

How Mobile Deposit Works

Open the Scotiaconnect mobile app, select Deposit, choose your account, enter the check amount, photograph both sides of the endorsed check, and submit — deposits made before 7:00 PM ET post the next business day.

The Scotiaconnect mobile deposit feature uses your phone's camera to capture check images that meet banking industry standards for remote deposit capture. Position the check on a dark, flat surface in good lighting — natural daylight works best, but a well-lit desk lamp also produces clear images. The app provides a frame guide overlay: align the check within the guides and hold the phone steady. The camera auto-captures when the image is properly aligned and in focus. You can also use the manual shutter button if you prefer. The app captures a separate image for the front and back of the check, displaying a preview of each before you submit.

Endorsement is required for mobile deposit. On the back of the check, sign your name as it appears on the payee line. Below your signature, write "For Scotiaconnect Mobile Deposit Only." This restrictive endorsement prevents someone from attempting to deposit the same check at a physical branch or another financial institution. Keep the paper check in a secure location for 14 calendar days after your deposit clears, then shred it. The Scotiaconnect app stores check images in your transaction history for 90 days.

Deposit Limits and Eligibility

Scotiaconnect mobile deposit limits start at $2,500 daily and $10,000 monthly for new personal accounts — established clients in good standing may qualify for increased limits up to $10,000 daily and $50,000 monthly.

Mobile deposit limits depend on account age, account type, and transaction history. New Scotiaconnect accounts opened within the last 90 days receive standard limits: $2,500 per day, $10,000 per calendar month. Accounts older than 90 days with consistent deposit activity and no returned items may be eligible for elevated limits: $5,000 daily, $25,000 monthly. After six months of positive history with no deposit issues, Scotiaconnect reviews your account for premium limits: $10,000 daily, $50,000 monthly. Business checking accounts start at higher baseline limits — $5,000 daily and $25,000 monthly — recognizing that commercial clients process larger check volumes.

If you need to deposit a check exceeding your daily limit, you have options. Deposit the check at a Scotiaconnect partner branch using the physical check. Split the deposit across two business days by depositing a portion through mobile deposit and the remainder the following day. Or request a limit review from Scotiaconnect customer support — temporary limit increases are sometimes available for specific situations like insurance settlement checks or real estate transaction proceeds.

Check Eligibility Requirements

Scotiaconnect mobile deposit accepts personal, business, government, payroll, cashier's checks, and money orders drawn on Canadian and U.S. banks — payee must match the Scotiaconnect account holder name exactly.

The check must be payable to the primary account holder or a joint account holder on the Scotiaconnect account. Third-party checks — checks payable to someone else that have been signed over to you — are not eligible for mobile deposit. Checks must be dated within the last six months. Post-dated checks (dated in the future) cannot be deposited through mobile deposit until the date on the check arrives. Foreign checks drawn on banks outside Canada or the United States require in-branch processing and are not eligible for mobile deposit.

Checks must be in Canadian dollars or U.S. dollars. U.S. dollar checks deposited through Scotiaconnect mobile deposit are converted at the platform's retail exchange rate at the time of deposit. The app displays the estimated CAD value before you confirm. The actual exchange rate applied at clearing may differ slightly from the estimate due to market movement between submission and settlement — Scotiaconnect uses the rate in effect when the check clears, not when you submit the image. For large USD checks, consider a wire transfer through Scotiaconnect instead — the FX rate is locked at the time of wire submission.

Funds Availability and Processing Timeline

Scotiaconnect mobile deposits submitted before 7:00 PM ET on business days post the next business day — the first $225 is available next day, with the remainder released within two business days for most checks.

Funds availability follows standard hold schedules aligned with FDIC guidance on funds availability. For most checks, $225 is available the next business day. The remaining balance clears within two business days. Certain checks may be subject to exception holds: checks over $5,525, redeposited checks previously returned unpaid, checks deposited into accounts less than 30 days old, or deposits made when the account has repeated overdrafts. Scotiaconnect notifies you at the time of deposit if an extended hold applies and specifies the exact date funds will become available.

Deposits submitted after 7:00 PM ET, on weekends, or on federal holidays are treated as received on the next business day. The funds availability clock starts from that next-business-day receipt date. For time-sensitive deposits, submit before 3:00 PM ET for the best chance of same-business-day processing initiation.
